Appreciation Through the Creative Arts

Do you know someone who is going through a hard time right now? Are you trying to find ways to encourage them? Have you considered looking at crafting in the creative arts?

Crafts can sound childish, but they can be highly effective in giving someone a little extra love. I have a friend who is going through a bit of hard time right now, and since it was her birthday yesterday, I decided to create a unique sort of card, not only to say happy birthday, but also to remind her how much I love her.

Sophie's Card

A collage card is not always easy, but it is a lot of fun. When my sister and I make these, we try to think of all the activities, films, memories, and characteristics that define our friend and then find pictures to represent these activities. Some of the questions I ask myself are below:

  • What are their favorite books/movies/songs?
  • Where did they grow up?
  • What’s their favorite beverage/food?
  • What are their favorite activities?

I paste all of these pictures onto a word document, print them out, and then cut and paste them onto a normal sized card. It takes a bit of time to arrange the pictures properly, but seeing my friend’s face when she opened the envelope made it all worth it.

Do you have a friend who is struggling right now? I’d encourage you to do something special for them. It could be a collage card or maybe just a coffee treat or a movie night together. And you know, sometimes, people just need to be asked how they are doing.
